New London Girls Youth Basketball Association’s (NLGYBA) mission is to provide opportunities for girls to participate in the game of basketball. With everyone’s help, our mission will be achieved. NLGYBA has sponsored many Heart of the Valley teams and traveling teams competing in area tournaments since 2002. Given that girls participating in basketball through NLGYBA are not charged a fee, the NLGYBA has set the following guidelines for girls and parents that are sponsored by NLGYBA. Because many other organizations and groups charge $25 to $200 to participate, it is felt that these are not unreasonable expectations. NLGYBA has one major type of fund-raiser - girl’s basketball tournaments. The majority of our funds come from these tournaments therefore; the most help is needed at tournaments. The money raised by these tournaments goes back to the girls in the form of team sponsorship and equipment. The tournaments will be a one or two-day event, taking place on Saturday and/or Sunday. Each family is expected to work at the tournaments in either concessions, admission at the door, set-up, clean up, keeping score, or keeping the clock. If a family is unable to help out at the tournaments, NLGYBA will request that they make a donation to NLGYBA based on the amount of money made by the organization at that particular tournament. Since NLGYBA is a 501 (c) (3) organization, your donation to the organization would be tax deductible. NLGYBA hosts 2-3 tournaments a season and parents are expected to help at all tournaments. Although not required, we strongly encourage all parents of participants to get involved as much as possible in NLGYBA. We need people to head many things for the tournaments, such as concessions, entry forms, admissions, etc. The monthly meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month August through May at 6:30 PM above Sommer’s Midtown. It would be great if every family could attend at least one monthly meeting. NLGYBA also requests that a coach or team representative from each grade level (tournament and the Heart of the Valley teams) be present at either the September or October meeting. This would allow the association to meet all team representatives and have an idea of how many teams will be participating in the upcoming season and will be looking for funds from NLGYBA. Thank you for your cooperation, The New London Girls Youth Basketball Association |
